It the Week-ending March 17th 2007

Welcome to the 1st week of my weekly music video post which is called "The Sound Crash", which is the sister site of my daily blog sight "It Came From Culture City" which could be found at
itcamefromculturecity.blogspot.com.

This is the weekly post of who is making the tunes the Mainsteam Radio {The Old Way to listen to the same stuff over and over] will not touch eight foot pole.

I will only play music that the indie kids think that are cool and is the talk of the indie music blog and the indie music web sight, so that mean there will be no N'Sycn, No K. Fed, No overhyped Emo Band, No Christina[sorry, Japer(Friend of the main blog sight)], and defenily no [before her head shaving melt-down] Britney.

The Weather this week at my Home Base in Detroit, MI was good for half the week and back to normaly the other half as the temp reach 72*F on Tuesday and by thursday the temp was brought back to earth with temps at 27*F and light snow, yes very light snow.

Most the week this week i was recovering from the Detroit Version of the SXSW Festival which is called the metrotimes hamtramck blowout, but only this time it all local and just like the SXSW Festival it all in one place, The blow out stared out way back in 1998 by detroit alturnavtied news weekly "The Metroitimes" as a show case for live detroit music.

At the First Festival there was only six venues The Attic,Paycheck's, Lounge,Roadrunner's Raft(Now the Altes bar),Lili's 21(Now The Painted Lady),Holbrook Cafe, and the Now defnc Motor Lounge with Over 70 bands of Rock, Pop, Rap, Blues and speard over two nights on that cold march night, so cold it snow on the very first day of the Blowout but the music have always still out despite the bad weather, over 2,000 people show up to the first blowout to see American Mars, Atomic Fireballs, Atomic Numbers, Butler Twins, Caelum Bliss, Cloud Car, Dean Fertita, Dirbombs, Fletcher Pratt ,Forge ,Fortune & Maltese ,Gepetto Files, Hentchmen, Immigrant Suns, Immortal Winos of Soul, Jill Jack, Kung Fu Diesel, 19.5 Collective, Spy Radio, They Come in 3's, 2 Star Tabernacle, Volcanos, Volebeats, Wildbunch, Windy & Carl, and Witches.

Two bands stood out that have well on there way to music fame and Succes a rapper who played his gig before he went out west to be decover by doctor Dre, that rapper is now know these days as Eminem and a red hot local rocking blues group which most people who did not know at the time where married but they pass on the Group as a Brother and sister act know as the White Stripes and you know the rest of the story.

well last week hamtramck blowout have grown three times the size of the orginal blow out back in 1998, Now it have 250 bands [v.s. 70+ in 98'] spead over 4 nights [v.s. 2 night in 98']covering over 2o+ venues [v.s. 6 in 98'], i will shared a Few bands i saw last week at the blow out two from the pre-party and the last three bands i saw at the blow out on saturday night begin with the hottest live detroit band right now there from east lansing, they from whield going to school at Michigan State and decied to from a band.

that festival was the high light show case on the detroit music scene last week and this week some of the music fans got out I-75 south and take the 1,407 miles trek [with a night stay in a hotel during the road trip] to the state captiol of texas and one of the coolest city in the country Austin where for the 21 years the city with the help of the alturnavie newsweekly there "The Austin Chronicle" put on what is called the event of all events in central Texas it called the South by Southwest that where the music fans from all over the country soak up the sun, the partys, the walking, and tons and tons of gig some free other you have to pay to get in nut it four days of listen of your faveor bands.

about 19 detroit bands are playing SXSW [as it most common called] among them Detroit Cobras, Gore Gore Girls, NOMO, The Paybacks, Outrageous Cherry, Saturday Looks Good To Me, The Sights, SSM as well as The Hard Lessons and Thunderbirds are Now! and a lot of bands are getting there first exposer to north america crowd for the first time and if you have been reading my main blog sight i have played there video on the blog sight to give them extra exposer.

here are videos of Four bands that i like are beging bill as buzz band for this year and are playing S.X.S.W., the first video is from a pretty three peice from briton, England in the U.K. that are bring back the girl Group of the 60's back in style and they go by the name Riot Becki, Gwenno, Rosay and will released there 1st album in July on Cherrytree record, because they are "The Pipettes"

Yea Yeah

that are four of the bands that are play SXSW in Austin during the SXSW music Festival,

Now i know that there will be tons and tons of covage of the SXSW Festival on all the music site or you can check the latest news by Google Search SXSW or 2007 sxsw or SXSW 2007 and music site that you visit will have a SXSW swcrion.

Also playing the SXSW Festival was the first major released of the year, her name is Lilly Allen and she released "Alright, Still" in Late January after almost a full half of year after the US Blogger fell in love with the album which included "LDN", "Littlest Things", and the lead off track which is called "Smile" which was recenly was rerecord for the EA The Sims 2: Seasons expansion pack

So i will played the regualy version and the Simlish version of "Smile"

That was Lilly Allen with "Smile" From Her Album "Alright, Still" which debut at no.20 in the US pop charts in it first week, now she will be on tour beginging next week but she will not drop by the detroit area, the closest she will get to detroit will be April 5th at the Phoenix Concert Theatre in lovely downtown Toronto and she will played the major festival from Cocachcella and Bonnaroo in the US and Glastonbury and V Festival in the U.K.

Now Speaking about gig stopping in detroit and going to played in detroit on of the big gig of the week happend at the magic stick or as i like to common refer it as "The Stick" where the band "Of Montreal" from Athens, Georgia[not montreal,PQ, Canada played to a sold out crowd at the stick the respond was so good the book a second gig at the stick but due to overwhieling demand, they move the show from the magic Stick to the bigger Majestic theaher.

the band came out of the Fame "The Elephant Six Collective" out of Denver[Which feather The Olivia Tremor Control, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Apples in Stereo, the band play there Neo-psychedelia, indie pop and have draw quite a following with there live acts

Here the First Video from the lateest album "Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?" Heimdalsgate Like A Promethean Curse

Now as you proabbly know that for the last few years some of the top indie act have been some way or andoer have been skipping the who detroit area either there not playing downtown or skiping the entire area complely so if a band that will played the city either a new band or a major indie band it must be big gig so on this post i post some of the band who with in the past week that will coming to Detroit.

and it was with great to hear that couple of bands have awsner the called to play detroit and i found out that a show have been book for May 9th for Clutch Cargo's in downtown Pontiac where last year biggest band from the U.K. Arctic Monkeys who set all kind of buuz last year when there debut album "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not" became the fastest-selling debut album in British music history and won them the 2006 Mercury Music Prize.

Well there back with a brand new album on April 24th with there new album which is called "Favourite Worst Nightmare" and here the first video from the album which is called "Brianstorm".

Also coming out of the UK is a singer who almost four year ago nobody have hear of but she realease a album that got her nonamintio for a Mercury Music Prize in 2004, here name is Amy Winehouse and she released "Stronger Than Me" back in 2004 with her Jazzy sole sound, recently she released her second album which is called "Back To Black" and her First single was called "rehab" which talk about her stuggle about to kick her alcohol addiction and it a good song.

Well i know you are asking you self where did i get the idea for the sound Crash idea, well i Got the Idea for the second sister site for the blog sight because on my main sight "It Came from Culture City" and i do a post every monday which is called "The Gig Gudie" and every monday i post a week worth of what is goning on on the TV, on-line, Satalitte Radio, and see who playing out in my home area of detroit.

Well i was finding the spelling of the MTV2 show called "Subterranean" and i was going to the google search the name and wheil sufing i found the Wikipedia page for 120 mintues which provied the his of the old MTV late night show which last from 1986 to 2000 on MTV and Swictch to it sister channel MTV2 for the last four year of there run from 200 to 2003.

I was clicking the links to the the sight on the Wikipedia page called
altmusictv where they have a extend list of old playlist from the almost all of the 120 mintues show on MTV and MTV2 and im was impress with it so i thought it will be good to do a video post with almost 20+ video in the sprit of the old MTV show and so after about a few week i think let put it up with a video pick from the playlist from altmusictv and i deciede to called that video "the 120 mintues monment".

Now this week 120 Minutes monment from the altmusictv old played list was kind of tricky becasuse i think it would be nice to go back to the 1st 120 minutes on MTV[March 10, 1986] when MTV was cool, but the archive go back to September 28, 1986
and that is almost 20 and a half year ago and i was looking at the bands that played on the show on that date and i found a band that will be remember for that one hit.

They was called "Timbuk 3" and they form around the same time in 1986 and they relaesed there debut album "Greetings from Timbuk 3" on IRS records where it spring off there only top 20 hit, the very quirky title "The Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades" which became a anthem for college kids alover the country, The band which consised of husband and wife duo of Pat and Barbara MacDonald also record and released five other albums ["Eden Alley", "Edge of Allegiance", "Big Shot in the Dark", there live album "Espace Ornano" and there final album "A Hundred Lovers"] but it will never come close to "Greetings from Timbuk 3" and this Song "The Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades".

Now the big story of this week was the 22nd induction dinier for the rock and roll hall of fame in New York City [aldought the great rock hall is locatan in Cleveland, Ohio, where the late great DJ and charther member Alan Freed coin the term rock n roll] this year was a very good class of 2007.

The year inducted the first rap act in the great hall as Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five was induction, also in the great hall was Ronnie Spector and her 60's girl group The Ronettes, also making it in cleveland hall but with a lot of diffaicl was the legond hard rock group Van Halen were only two members of the band show Michael Anthony and Sammy Hagar were the only band members who showed up, Avoiding a repeat of what happend to blondie in the 2006 show.

And Two more indie rock favoret, long time college rock band from Athens, Georgia "R.E.M." get there due after a long carred and 70's female Punk Icon Patti Smith who married MC5 Fred "Sonic" Smith, retied from music and live in detroit for about seven years untill his death in 1994 and still rocking today [and in the insert of public discloer i am good friend with her son Jackinson Smith who played for the now defunk band "Back In Spades" and who also played in her backing band at the hall ceritmony].

and now here are all the video of thoused who got indution in to the hall.

The Ronettes
Be My Baby

Patti Smith
Because The Night

Van Halen
Panama

Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five
The Message

R.E.M.
Shiny Happy People
